Watercolor tips

If you want to create texture in watercolor on large pebbles or stones try this. Draw the shape, wet the shape with a colored wash, then before it dries sharpen a watercolor pencil over the shape in the color you want (ie: grey). Leave to dry and you will find that the pencil scraping has left what look like little holes in your stones. If you scrape green or brown on to grey stones it will look like lichen.

To create a pebble area wet the area and drop drops of brown, black, grey and the tiniest bit of red paint on to the damp paper. This will spread. Leave to dry then go over it with a lead pencil and pick out the 'pebble shapes'.
